What it’s like
Free wildlife art gallery on the Yorkshire Wolds with live nest cam feeds, documentary films and original paintings to browse.
You wander round original wildlife paintings, then sit down to watch live feeds from wildlife nests and documentary films playing in the gallery. It's a quiet, browsable sort of visit rather than an activity-packed one, so it suits kids who like animals and don't mind looking rather than climbing. Given it's free to get in, it's an easy add-on if you're already out on the Yorkshire Wolds near Thixendale.
There's no admission charge and no need to book, you just turn up during opening hours and get a warm welcome, plus a complimentary coffee when you arrive. Weekdays it's open 9am to 4.30pm, weekends and bank holidays 10.30am to 4.30pm, and it does close for things like Christmas Day and New Year. Parking is free and there's plenty of it, with disabled parking right in the courtyard by the entrance, and the gallery itself has wheelchair access.
Don't expect a café menu on site, though. There's complimentary coffee going, but if you want actual food you'll be heading to one of the nearby pubs or cafés. Dogs have to stay in the car unless they're a guide dog arranged in advance, which is a bit of a faff if you were planning a walk round the Wolds beforehand.
Groups are welcome too. There's a gift shop on site if the paintings or the nest cams have won anyone over and they fancy taking something home.
