WHERE

York

What it’s like

A small independent gallery near the Minster with original paintings, prints, ceramics and jewellery to browse.

This is a gallery for a proper look rather than a run around, original paintings, prints, ceramics and jewellery from established artists on the walls and in cabinets. It suits a quieter visit, the sort where you slow down and point things out, rather than anywhere with things to climb on.

There's a gift shop if you want to take something small home, which is handy if the art itself is a bit above pocket money budget. It sits five minutes from York Minster and about twelve from the railway station, so it slots in easily if you're already walking that part of town.

Opening hours are worth knowing before you turn up: Monday is a shorter day, 10.30am till 2pm, while Tuesday to Saturday it's open till 5pm. It's shut on Sundays and every bank holiday Monday, though the gallery is there online any time if you fancy a browse before you go.

Parking is the usual York faff in this part of the city. The Medium Stay car park at Bootham Row sits right behind the gallery, and the Long Stay at Marygate is a few minutes further on if that's full.
