What it’s like
A canalside café by the Burleigh Factory Shop doing proper afternoon tea, with a children's version on the menu too.
This is a sit-down café rather than a soft play or an attraction, set next to the Trent and Mersey canal by the Burleigh Factory Shop. There's a children's menu alongside the main food, so it works for a family lunch stop as well as a grown-up treat. The afternoon tea is the thing to book here, and there's a savoury "gentlemen's" version too if the usual sandwiches and cake stands aren't your thing.
Afternoon tea needs booking at least 24 hours ahead, which is a bit of planning for something that sounds like a spontaneous treat, but at £21.95 for adults and £12.95 for children it's the kind of outing you'd want to plan around anyway. Regular café visits don't need that same notice, though larger groups are asked to call ahead and book a table.
It's open 10am to 4pm daily, with last entry at 3pm. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options are all on the menu as standard, and they'll try to accommodate other dietary needs if you tell them in advance. Dogs are welcome both indoors and outside.
Parking is free on-site by the factory shop, with overflow on Travers Street and some on-street spaces too, and there's disabled parking closer by on Harper Street. The ground floor is wheelchair accessible with accessible toilets and baby changing on site, which covers most of what you'd need for a pushchair or a wheelchair user without any fuss.
