What it’s like

A working pottery studio that only takes kids by arranging a private one-off session, not walk-in classes.

This isn't a pottery painting café where you turn up and glaze a mug on a Saturday afternoon. The Kiln Rooms runs proper courses and taster sessions for adults, and if you want to bring children along, the route in is a private one-off session rather than booking onto anything regular. That means no standard kids' class to check times for, but it also means whatever gets thrown or painted is planned around your group rather than squeezed into someone else's timetable.

The catch for under 18s is that they need at least two adults taking part alongside them, so this is one for a proper family outing or a small group booking rather than dropping one child off for an hour. It's worth building in extra time to actually get it arranged too, since these sessions are set up directly with the studio rather than booked instantly online.

There are two locations doing this, Farringdon and Peckham, and both can host private sessions and group activities. If you're thinking birthday party, this could work well as something a bit different from the usual soft play, but you'll want to sort the details, numbers and what the session actually involves well before the date.

Don't expect to just wander in and see the studio in action either. It's closed to the public outside of organised events, so this really is a book-first, visit-second kind of place.

Plan your visit

Do you run pottery classes for children?

Not as regular courses or taster sessions, no. They can host a private one-off session for under 18s, but you need at least two adults taking part.

Can we just turn up and have a look at the studio?

No, the studios are closed to the public except during events. Any visit needs to be arranged with staff directly.

Is it open over Easter or Christmas?

Classes run over the Easter weekend, Friday to Monday. They also pause for 10 to 14 days over Christmas and New Year.

Can we book a birthday party there?

Private sessions and group activities can be hosted at either the Farringdon or Peckham studio. For under 18s you will need at least two adults in the group.
