What it’s like
Indoor karting on a 450-metre multi-level track with a flyover, plus a Mini Racer version for the small ones.
The main event is the 450-metre circuit, twisting over two levels with a flyover section that's clearly built to make the straights feel faster than they are. Kids of 8 and up race proper karts, so long as they've got a 25-inch inside leg and stand at least 1.2m tall. Younger ones aren't left out either: Mini Racers is a separate experience for 4 to 7 year olds between 1.0m and 1.4m, so a four-year-old genuinely gets to drive rather than just watch from the sidelines.
Anyone under 16 needs an adult with them, but from 8 they can race solo if they fancy it, which is the bit most kids will remember, tearing round on their own without mum or dad in the passenger seat. Spectating is free and you don't need to book for it, so grandparents or a sibling too small to race can watch from the bar area instead of standing about outside.
Booking is essential and you pay in full up front, which means a change of plan costs you the session, there's no refund and you can't shuffle it to someone else. Worth being sure of your slot before you commit. You can't bring your own food in either, which stings if you'd packed snacks for a fussy eater, but the Fuel Bars cover soft drinks, smoothies, milkshakes and hot drinks with vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal options, plus a full bar with alcohol for the adults watching on.
Parking's free on site, which takes the sting out of the booking cost a bit, and it's a fifteen-minute walk from Manchester United Football Ground train station if you're coming without a car. The venue's partially wheelchair accessible with a ground floor spectator area and an accessible pit lane, and there's blue badge parking too.
