What it’s like
A volunteer-run cinema and community space with a monthly kids' film club, plus a café, gigs and club nights for the grown-ups.
This is a co-operative cinema first, but there's more going on under the same roof. The Family Film Club runs on the last Saturday of the month at 11am, showing family and kids' films in the 80-seat screen, which also has 10 wheelchair spaces built in. Outside of that, there's a free Sunday creative writing group from 2pm to 4pm, and Woolly Mammoths, a free drop-in knitting and crochet club open to any age, which is a nice one to know about if you've got a child who fidgets happily with wool while the grown-ups chat.
Tickets for standard screenings run £3, £5 or £7 depending on the film, which is proper cheap for a cinema outing. The café is open Sundays 12pm to 4pm, and the building's fully accessible with level access throughout and two accessible toilets, including a changing places facility with a hoist and adjustable basin, so it's genuinely easy to get round with a buggy or a wheelchair.
Outside the family stuff, the venue doubles as a proper music and events space. It hosts touring bands and local DIY gigs, corporate and community hire for the cinema screen, and late club nights running 9pm to 3am with the bar open until 2am. That side of things is very much not for the kids, but it's worth knowing the same building that hosts your Saturday morning film club turns into a club night later that evening.
One thing to flag: this is a volunteer-run place, so opening hours shift around depending on who's available and what's on. It does not take bookings for private birthday parties or weddings, though it does hire the space out for corporate and community events, cinema screenings and gigs.
