What it’s like

An independent cinema with a Family Film Club and Parent & Baby screenings, plus two places to eat either side of the film.

This isn't a multiplex with twelve screens and a pick and mix wall the size of a bus. It's an independent cinema that runs a Family Film Club, so if you want a Saturday morning film without a full evening screening's worth of trailers and adverts, that's the slot to look for. There are also Parent & Baby screenings if you've got a baby in tow and don't fancy leaving them with a sitter just to watch something on the big screen.

If sitting still for ninety minutes isn't your child's strong suit, the Relaxed Cinema screenings are listed too, which is worth knowing if a standard showing with the lights down and no talking feels like a big ask on a given day.

Either side of the film, there are two places to eat: the Tyneside Bar Cafe, open from 11am most days, and Vicolo, a cocktail bar and coffee shop that opens earlier at 9am. Neither is going to be quick chicken nuggets and back in the car, so build in time either before or after the screening rather than trying to squeeze food into a ten-minute gap.

It's a three-minute walk from the Metro and bus links, so if you're coming into town anyway this isn't a detour. There's a Young Tyneside scheme with discounted tickets for 16 to 24 year olds too, which is more useful for the older end of the family than the younger one.

There are Relaxed Cinema screenings listed, built for exactly that.

Where can we eat?

Two options on site, the Tyneside Bar Cafe for food and drinks, and Vicolo for coffee or cocktails. Vicolo opens earliest, from 9am.

How do we get there?

It's a three-minute walk from Metro and bus links, so you don't need to think about parking if you're coming in on public transport.
