What it’s like

Free entry to a working watermill with giant garden games and a weekend café, open Saturdays and Sundays only.

Giant jenga, giant connect four, boules, skittles and kubb are all set out for you to have a go at, alongside a working watermill you can explore with the grounds around it. There's teddy bear activities too, which suggests they've thought about the younger end of the visit as well as the mill itself.

Getting in costs nothing, which makes this an easy one to add to a weekend if you're nearby. It only opens Saturdays and Sundays, 10:30am to 2:30pm, and shuts for the winter entirely, so this is very much a fair-weather-months plan rather than a year-round fallback.

The Mill Race Cafe is open both days if you want a coffee and something to eat, though last food orders are at 2pm, so don't leave lunch until the last twenty minutes. There's a picnic area on site too if you'd rather bring your own, and dogs are welcome to come along for the wander round the grounds.

Being an outdoor site built around a mill and its grounds, this suits families happy to potter rather than race between big attractions. The giant games are the bit kids will want to go back to, especially if you've got more than one of them competing over the connect four.
