What it’s like

Kayaking, paddleboarding and an inflatable Aqua Park course on open water, best from age 8 up.

This is a proper watersports centre rather than a splash-about pool day, so most of what's on offer needs a bit of nerve and some basic swimming. Kids can try kayaking, canoeing, stand up paddleboarding, powerboating and the Aqua Park inflatable course, plus there's open water swimming if you're confident enough. The Swan Pedalos are the gentler option at £20 for 30 minutes, which feels steep for a paddle round but it's an easy way to get younger family members onto the water without the wetsuit faff.

The age eight cut off is worth knowing before you book anything. Six and seven year olds can go out, but only in a double kayak with a responsible adult doing the steering, so this isn't somewhere to bring a toddler expecting toddler things. Anyone doing open water swimming needs to manage 200 metres unaided, which the site is firm about, and wetsuit hire is £5 a person if you haven't got your own gear.

Winter opening is 9:30am to 4pm daily but subject to bookings, so it is not guaranteed you can just turn up outside the busier months. The Fika café only runs April to September, closed Mondays, so pack snacks if you're visiting off season or on a Monday. Parking's free on site, changing rooms have hot showers, and there's a Wheelyboat that lets wheelchair users get out onto the water too, which is a genuinely useful bit of kit most places this size do not bother with.

Birthday parties run as 1 or 2 hour sessions with food sorted through Fika, and group bookings and team building sessions are available if you want the whole outing rather than just an hour on the water. Bring a t-shirt and shorts or a tracksuit, proper trainers or wetsuit boots, and skip the flip flops, they will not let you in with open toes.

Yes, free parking on site.

Can wheelchair users take part?
