What it’s like
Free Bookbug sessions for under-fives and shelves of books to dig into, with a café and free parking round the back.
This is a proper library rather than a soft play with books bolted on, so the main event for younger kids is Bookbug. It's free, aimed at babies, toddlers and under-fives, and it's the sort of regular fixture that gets a fussy two-year-old used to sitting still for ten minutes, which is no small thing.
Outside of that there's the usual library pleasure of just being let loose among thousands of books, which sounds unglamorous until you watch a six-year-old actually pick their own for once. There's a quiz night too, which is more of a grown-up draw but worth knowing if you fancy a night out once the kids are sorted. Entry's free across the board, so a visit costs you nothing beyond whatever you fancy in the café.
Hours are decent but not identical every day. Tuesdays and Thursdays it's open till 8pm, the rest of the week it shuts at 5, and it's closed on Sundays, so a Sunday plan needs a rethink. There's free parking at the back, the building's wheelchair accessible with a loan wheelchair available, and there's baby change and breastfeeding-friendly space if you're in with a small one for the morning.
It's indoors and dry whatever's happening outside, which makes it a sensible fallback on a filthy Glasgow afternoon. Assistance dogs are welcome but other pets aren't, so leave the family dog at home unless it's working.
