What it’s like

A free local library with Bookbug sessions for babies and a role-playing games club for older kids.

This is a library first, so the main event is the books, the magazines and a decent stretch of shelves to poke about in. For the younger end there's Bookbug, the singing and rhyme sessions aimed at babies and under-fives, which is the sort of thing that either goes down a treat or gets you a very loud two-year-old, depending on the day. Older kids get their own thing too: a Table Top Role Playing Games Club pitched at 11 to 16 year olds, which is a nice bit of range for a community centre this size.

There's free Wi-Fi and PCs if anyone needs to look something up or you've forgotten to charge a tablet. It costs nothing to get in, which is the obvious win here, and the hours are generous through the week: two late finishes at 8pm on Monday and Wednesday, and 10 to 5 the rest bar Sunday, when it's shut.

Parking is free right at the front, with two Blue Badge bays, and the building's wheelchair accessible with baby change facilities and a breastfeeding friendly space. Assistance dogs are welcome, other animals aren't, which is standard for these venues. It's not a big day out by any stretch, but for a wet Tuesday morning with a toddler in tow and no entry fee to worry about, it does the job.
