What it’s like
Free Bookbug rhymes and books to borrow, with a changing places toilet that a lot of libraries simply don't have.
This is a proper local library, not a soft play, so the appeal is quieter than most Huddlepin venues. Bookbug sessions for babies and under-5s are the main event if you've got a small one, all rhymes and songs and board books, and it's free to turn up and join in. Beyond that there are thousands of books to browse and borrow and computers to use, so an older child doing homework or hunting for their next reading obsession is just as well served as a toddler.
There's no cost at all, which makes it an easy midweek filler between naps or after nursery pickup. Monday to Thursday it's open until 8pm, which is handy if the school run leaves you needing somewhere later in the day, but Friday and Saturday it shuts earlier, and Sunday it's closed altogether, so don't turn up expecting a weekend rescue on a Sunday afternoon.
Practically, there's baby change and breastfeeding facilities, plus a changing places toilet, which is worth knowing if you need one because plenty of libraries don't have them. There's no on-site car park, so you're relying on street parking or public transport to get there. Wheelchairs can be borrowed free of charge if you need one for the visit, and assistance dogs are welcome though other animals generally aren't.
It won't fill an afternoon the way a big attraction will, but for a Bookbug morning or a wet hour with the books and wifi, it does the job without costing you anything.
