What it’s like
Free Bookbug songs and stories for babies and toddlers, plus a whole library of books to dig into.
Bookbug is the main event here: sessions of songs, rhymes and stories aimed at babies, toddlers and under-fives. It's the sort of thing you can turn up to without spending a penny, which counts for a lot when you've got a small one who costs you money everywhere else you take them. Beyond the sessions, there's the rest of the library too, so if your toddler burns through the Bookbug songs in twenty minutes you've still got shelves of books to wander round.
It's open six days a week, closed Sundays, with two late nights on Tuesday and Thursday running to 8pm if mornings are a write-off in your house. The other four days it shuts at 5pm, so a Saturday morning visit before nap time makes sense. Entry's free throughout, which for a library isn't exactly a shock, but it's worth saying when everything else this week seems to cost something.
There's a car park on site, which is more than a lot of local libraries can say, and the route in from it is accessible if you're pushing a buggy or need a hand with a wheelchair. Toilets and wifi are there too, useful if the Bookbug session overruns and you need to occupy an older sibling on a phone for five minutes.
This isn't a big day out, more an hour or so filler, but for babies and toddlers who like routine and repetition, regular Bookbug visits can become the thing they ask for by name.
