What it’s like
Bowling, crazy golf and pool under one roof at St James Quarter, with shooting pods and arcade games to fill the gaps.
Bowling's the obvious starting point, but the 14-hole crazy golf is the bit that'll actually eat your afternoon. Pool, darts, shuffleboard and shooting pods are all in the mix too, so a group can rotate through games for a couple of hours without anyone getting bored. It's inside St James Quarter, a short walk from Waverley Station, which makes it an easy add-on if you're already in town.
Bowling starts at £10.50 a head, but the package deals are where it gets interesting. Two games for £13, three for £18, four for £21 if everyone wants a go at everything, or the Family Bowling package at £25 if you'd rather bundle it. Bookings are non-refundable though, so it's worth being sure of your slot before you pay.
You don't have to book. Walk-ins are accepted, but they're upfront that Edinburgh gets busy and you might wait for a lane if you just turn up. Kids under 14 need an adult with them at all times, and it switches to over-18s only from 10pm here, which matters if you're eyeing a later slot with the family in tow.
There's a restaurant on site doing pizzas, hot dogs and street food, plus cocktails for the adults once the kids are settled into a game. It reads more like an activity bar than a soft play, with late hours and a drinks list to match, but during the day with a group of children who can handle some noise and a competitive round of crazy golf, it does the job.
