What it’s like
Treetop zip lines and wobbly high wires in Walton Hall Gardens, with a lower course for kids from four and a proper high-wire test for the brave ones.
The Adventurer Course is the one for most families: over 60 treetop activities across several levels, zip lines and swings included, and it starts at 1.05m so a lot of four and five-year-olds will get on. The Xplorer Course is a different proposition entirely, 40-plus high-wire activities pitched at older kids and adults, and you need to be 1.35m to have a go. If you've got a mixed-age group, that gap matters, work out who's climbing what before you turn up.
Height and weight limits are strict rather than a formality. Red course wants 1.20m and age 7+, Black wants 1.28m and age 8+, and there's a 14 stone limit on the green and blue Adventurer courses. Long hair gets tied back, jewellery comes off, and flip-flops or open sandals will get you turned away at the base, so trainers are non-negotiable.
Once you're done on the ropes, Walton Hall Gardens gives you somewhere to spend the rest of the day: the Children's Zoo, a play area, crazy golf, pitch and putt, glass houses, a land train and a cycle museum are all part of the same grounds. It stretches a half-day visit into a full one without much extra planning.
Booking has to be paid online in advance; turn up without booking and it's cash only on the day, which catches people out. Cancelling needs 48 hours' notice or there's a £7.50 admin fee, so don't book on a whim if your plans are shaky. The Heritage Café on site does home-made cakes and sandwiches if you'd rather not bring a picnic, though picnic spots are dotted round the gardens if you do.

How much does it cost?
Pricing depends on the course and group size, so it's not a flat fee across the board. Parties work out at £19 per child for the Adventurer Course with supervising adults going free.
Do we need to book in advance?
Yes, and you'll need to pay online to secure it. If you're already on site you can also book on a smartphone for instant confirmation, but walk-up payment is cash only.
What age can start on the courses?
The Adventurer Course has a 1.05m height minimum, which tends to suit kids from around four. The Xplorer Course needs 1.35m, so it's really one for older children and adults.
What should the kids wear?
Trainers or shoes with good grip, comfy clothing, and hair tied back if it's long. Flip-flops and open sandals aren't allowed on the course.
What happens if it rains?
The courses stay open in wind and rain as long as you've dressed for it, hats and waterproofs help. Sites only close in genuinely extreme weather, and you'd be told in advance if that happened.
Is there parking nearby?
Pay and display on Walton Lea Road, three minutes' walk from the base. It's £3 on weekdays and £4 at weekends, all day.
