What it’s like

A pub kitchen with a proper kids menu and food served right through the day, useful if little appetites can't wait for a comedy slot.

This one's really about the food side rather than a play area or soft play frame. The kitchen runs from whenever the pub opens until 9:30pm, so you're not stuck watching the clock for a set dinner sitting. There's a kids menu alongside the usual meat, vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options, all labelled clearly on the board, which makes life easier if you've got a fussy eater and someone who won't touch anything green.

Sundays work differently. Roasts run from 12pm until 6pm or until they run out, then it switches to a reduced menu for the rest of the evening. If a Sunday roast is the plan, going earlier rather than later seems the sensible call given they can sell out.

Ordering is at the bar, and you get a buzzer that vibrates when the food's ready for collection at the hatch near the staircase. It's a system that works fine once you know it, though wrangling a buzzer, a menu and a toddler at the bar in one go takes a bit of juggling. Tables can be booked ahead for food, and if you're bringing a bigger group, fifteen or more, they want you to email rather than book online.
