What it’s like
A gaming van parks outside your house and turns your driveway into a Fortnite and FIFA party for a squad of up to ten.
A Team Captain drives a van kitted out with the latest consoles and wall-to-wall 4K screens straight to your door, then runs the whole party while you get on with the sausage rolls. Kids play Fifa, Minecraft, Fortnite and Rocket League on multiplayer, and the van's heated and air conditioned so a cold January doesn't kill the mood.
Parties run 60 or 90 minutes, with the team turning up up to half an hour early to set up, so you're not stood in the drive waiting. It's £170 for the hour or £225 for 90 minutes, and that's not far off what you'd pay for a soft play do, minus the mess. A 50% deposit locks the date in, and they say slots go fast, so this isn't one to sort the week before.
Numbers depend on age: eight children for 7 and 8 year olds, up to ten for 9 to 12s, back down to eight for teens. There's a firm line at 6 and under, no exceptions, so this is one for the school-age crowd rather than a little one's do. All you need to provide is space to park, a mains socket and, if you want online play, your home wifi.
One catch worth knowing: no food or drink is allowed on the van itself, so plan the cake and juice for the garden or living room instead. They'll play through most weather, red warnings aside, and if one of those rare warnings hits you get a refund or a new date rather than a cancelled party with no comeback.
