Escape The Van
BEST FOR
Ages 7+
WHERE
Manchester
What it’s like
A mobile escape room in a van, with puzzles and locks to crack in as little as ten minutes or a full hour.
This one's a bit different from your usual escape room, because the room is a van. Inside, your crew has to work together to find clues, crack codes and get locks open before the timer runs out. There are three set-ups to pick from: Contaminated!, a quick 10 to 20 minute challenge that's good if attention spans are short, The Experiment, a 60-minute lab-themed room, and Top Secret, a WW2 themed hour that can take up to 32 people if you've got a big group to entertain.
Age-wise, they're upfront that solo kid groups (think birthday parties) need to be 11 and up with an adult in tow. Drop in two or more adults though, family-style, and they reckon seven-year-olds will get stuck in and enjoy it too, which is worth knowing if you've got a mixed-age crew and don't want anyone left out on the pavement.
Visit length is short by escape room standards, ten minutes for the quick version up to an hour for the full experiences, so this slots in well either side of something else on the day rather than eating the whole afternoon.
One wheelchair user plus their group can get in, though you will need to bring your own ramp, since the van's opening is 720mm wide and needs one rated for a 400mm incline. Worth sorting that before you turn up rather than finding out on the day.

Plan your visit
How old do kids need to be?
For a kids-only group like a birthday party they want them at least 11, with an adult along. If you've got two or more adults joining in as a family, seven-year-olds are fine too.
How long does it take?
Depends which one you pick. Contaminated! is over in 10 to 20 minutes, while The Experiment and Top Secret both run a full hour.
How many can do it together?
Top Secret can take up to 32 people, so it works for a proper group booking, not just a family of four.
Can we bring a wheelchair user?
One wheelchair user plus their group can take part. You'll need to bring your own ramp though, as the van opening is 720mm wide and needs a ramp rated for a 400mm incline.
