What it’s like
A private hour locked in a themed room, solving puzzles as a team to escape before the clock runs out.
You get sixty minutes, your own group and nobody else's, and a room full of puzzles designed to make you argue about which drawer to open first. There are 15 different themed rooms to pick from, so a family that fancies pirates gets pirates and one that fancies Alcatraz gets that instead. At the end there's a free group photo, which is a nice touch given they don't let you film or snap anything mid-game, so you'll actually have to remember the bit where someone worked out the final code with thirty seconds left.
It suits a fairly wide age range on paper, from small children right up to teenagers, but the site is honest that under-12s need an adult in the room and very young kids might find the puzzles a bit much. Under-6s go free, which is a fair way to handle a toddler who just wants to tag along without actually cracking codes, and there's even a line about babies sleeping through the whole thing if your babysitter's let you down. Two players is the minimum for any room, so this isn't really a solo mission.
Booking online gets you a set time slot, and walk-ins are only taken if a slot's free, so turning up on spec is a gamble worth avoiding on a busy day. Arrive more than 20 minutes late and you lose the booking entirely with no refund, which feels harsh but is at least clearly stated upfront. It's a cashless venue, so leave the coin jar at home, and there's parking on site at Harpurhey Shopping Centre if you're driving over.
One thing to flag before you commit: it isn't wheelchair-accessible, and some of the rooms involve staircases. The Titanic room even has a crawl-through tunnel, so that one's out if you're pregnant or have mobility needs.

Plan your visit
Do we need to book in advance?
Not strictly, they take walk-ins if a slot's free, but slots are limited each day so booking ahead is the safer bet.
Is it suitable for young kids?
Under-12s must have an adult with them, and the site is upfront that very young players can find the puzzles too demanding to really enjoy it. Under-6s aren't charged at all.
What happens if we're late or need to cancel?
More than 20 minutes late and the booking's cancelled with no refund. You can reschedule for free if it's more than 24 hours before your slot, otherwise you lose the booking.
Can we take photos inside?
No photos or video during the game itself, but you get a free group photo afterwards to take home.
Is there parking?
On-site parking at Harpurhey Shopping Centre.
Is the venue wheelchair accessible?
Generally not, and some premises have staircases that make it tricky for anyone using mobility aids. Worth calling ahead if you have specific access needs.
