What it’s like
Free drop-in sessions for every age, from baby rhymes to a Saturday LEGO club and a teens poetry project.
This is a library that's doing a lot more than shushing people. Thursday mornings are given over to story time for babies and toddlers, the sort of session where nobody minds if your one-year-old shouts through the whole thing. Saturday afternoons switch to LEGO Club for the school-age crowd, and there's a Homework Club running Tuesday afternoons for anyone from Year 4 up to GCSE, which is a genuinely useful thing to have on your radar if revision season is looming.
There's also a project called Poetry, Portraits & Pronouns aimed at 11 to 16 year olds, which is a braver bit of programming than you'd expect from a library timetable and worth a look if you've got a teenager who likes to write or needs a reason to leave the house.
Everything here is free, which counts for a lot when you're trying to fill a week of half term without spending a fortune. The trade-off is the opening hours are a bit of a puzzle: most days it shuts at 5, Monday and Thursday it stays open till 7, and Saturday is a shorter 10 till 5. Worth working out which session lands on which day before you turn up expecting story time on a Saturday.
