What it’s like
Storytimes, Lego Club and a garden Easter egg hunt, all free at this small local library.
The regular fixtures here are what you'd plan a week around: singing and rhymes for the under-fives, Lego Club, an art club, and craft sessions for children under 11. None of it costs anything, which makes it an easy add to a Saturday morning rather than a big outing you have to justify.
The garden's worth knowing about. Picnics are allowed out there, and it's also where the Easter egg hunt happens, so if the weather's on your side you can turn a half hour visit into a longer one. There's no café on site, so if you want that flat white you'll bring your own tea in a flask or plan around it.
Opening hours are a bit uneven across the week. Wednesday's the long day, 10 till 7, while Tuesday and Thursday it shuts at 1, so it's not somewhere to turn up to on a whim without checking which day you're going. Parking near Shawbrook Road is limited, with priority spaces for disabled users, and if you fancy the train instead, Mauldeth Road station is about a twenty minute walk across Kingsway, with trains into the city centre every half hour.
There's also a smaller outreach side to the library, where you can collect reserved books and drop off food bank donations, and a free Talk English Café runs on Thursday mornings for anyone wanting to practise the language over a cup of tea.
