What it’s like
Giant covered rainforest and Mediterranean biomes to explore, plus an outdoor play area, all on a timed ticket you book ahead.
The two huge covered Biomes are the whole point of a visit here. One's a rainforest, the biggest indoor one going, and it's properly warm and sticky in there. The other does the Mediterranean, all dry heat and different plants, and between the two you get a decent contrast without leaving the site. There are free daily tours of the Biomes if your kids like being told what they're looking at rather than just running past it.
Outside there's Nature's Playground, which is where younger kids will actually spend a lot of their energy, plus water play and other hands-on bits dotted around. The ticket is a general one that doubles as an annual pass, so if you only meant to come once, you end up with a free return trip within the year without asking for it.
Booking online is the way to go, both for the price (£12.50 a child, £35.50 an adult, cheaper than turning up and paying £15 and £39.50 on the day) and because entry isn't guaranteed without a timed slot, especially in school holidays. Students get a discount too with ID, £32 online. Under 5s go free, up to four per adult, and any child aged 0 to 13 needs an adult with them throughout.
One thing to know before you commit: there are no refunds if plans change. Annual or Locals' Pass holders can email to move their date or time, but a straight ticket-holder is stuck with the slot they booked. In December they run a Christmas Lights Experience, where the Biomes close to general visitors at 3.15pm and reopen from 4 to 8.30pm for that ticket only, so it's worth knowing if you're aiming for an evening visit that time of year.

Do we need to book ahead?
Book a timed slot online, it's cheaper and it's the only way entry is guaranteed, particularly in school holidays.
Can we change our date if plans fall through?
There are no refunds. Annual or Locals' Pass holders can email guest services to move their slot, but standard tickets are fixed once booked.
Is it good for under 5s?
Under 5s go in free, up to four per accompanying adult, and there's an outdoor play area and water play alongside the Biomes.
Do children need to be accompanied?
Yes, anyone aged 0 to 13 must stay with an adult throughout the visit.
Is the ticket just for one day?
The general ticket doubles as an annual pass, so you get unlimited return visits for a year even if you only planned on going once.
What's there to eat?
Several cafés on site serve food themed around the different exhibits.
Is there anything on over Christmas?
There's a Christmas Lights Experience where the Biomes close to general visitors at 3.15pm and reopen from 4 to 8.30pm for that separate ticket.
Could the Biomes be closed when we visit?
Occasionally, yes, for maintenance or private functions, so it's not guaranteed every part will be open on the day.
