What it’s like
Free Bookbug sessions and shelves of books to browse, no ticket needed and no car park either.
Bookbug is the big draw here, songs, rhymes and stories aimed at babies and toddlers, and it's free. It's a proper low-key morning out rather than an event, so don't expect fireworks, just a room full of small kids clapping along and a stack of picture books to take home after.
Outside of that there's the usual library browsing, and with thousands of books on the shelves it's easy to lose half an hour just pulling things off and reading a page or two before your toddler moves onto the next one. There's wifi if you need to sit and work while they potter, and a baby change and accessible toilet if you're there with a pram in tow.
Hours shift through the week, which catches people out. Monday and Wednesday it's open 1pm to 8pm, but Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday it's 10am to 5pm instead, and it's shut all day Sunday. Worth checking which day you're going before you turn up expecting the same slot as last week.
The one real gripe is parking. There's no car park attached to the building, so if you're driving you'll want to find street parking nearby rather than assuming you can pull straight up outside.
