WHERE

What it’s like

Free Bookbug rhymes for babies and toddlers, plus arts and crafts drop-ins for the school-age crowd, with no ticket needed.

Bookbug is the session most parents will already know: songs, rhymes and a story for babies and under-fives, running as a drop-in rather than something you book weeks ahead. There's also a Kid's Arts and Crafts session for ages 4 to 12, so if you've got one small one and one who's past nursery, you're not stuck choosing which child gets a morning out.

It's free to get in, which for a library sounds obvious but is worth saying when everything else in Glasgow costs something these days. There's a baby change and an accessible toilet on site, and wifi if you need to sit and answer emails while someone else reads the picture books.

Opening hours shift through the week: 10 to 5 on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, but 1pm to 8pm on Monday and Wednesday. Worth glancing at before you head out, since a Tuesday morning trip and a Monday morning trip won't both work. There's no car park on site, so factor in where you're leaving the car if you're not walking or getting the bus.

Assistance dogs are welcome, but other animals generally aren't, so leave the family pet at home even if it's very well behaved.
