What it’s like

Free Bookbug sessions and shelves of books to browse, with no ticket and no car park to fight for.

This is a straightforward library visit built around Bookbug, the rhymes-and-stories sessions for babies, toddlers and under-fives. It's free, and thousands of books are there to be pulled off shelves and abandoned in a pile, which is exactly what small kids do best.

There's no booking link listed, so you turn up and hope for a space. The site's honest that Bookbug spots are first come first served and limited, which is a bit of a faff if you've timed your morning around it and the room's already full. Turning up ten minutes early seems the sensible move rather than the stated rule.

Opening hours stretch to 8pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays, useful if the morning's a write-off, otherwise it's a 10 to 5 day the rest of the week. There's baby changing and an accessible toilet, so a buggy and a nappy bag aren't a problem, and wifi if you need to park yourself with a coffee while someone else reads to the kids.

The catch is parking. There's no car park on site.
