Draycote Water
BUGGY FRIENDLY
Yes
What it’s like
A reservoir with a smooth, level path round it for a proper walk or scoot, buggy and wheelchair friendly the whole way.
The main thing here is the walk itself, a path round the reservoir with a smooth surface that copes fine with buggy wheels or a wheelchair, so it's an easy one to pick when you want to get out of the house without wrestling a pushchair over mud. There's a changing places facility too, which is worth knowing about if you need one and usually don't get much choice.
Dogs have to stay on the lead round the reservoir itself, or skip that bit altogether and use the Country Park and Hensborough Trail instead, guide dogs are the only exception right by the water. It's a small faff if you were planning a proper dog walk, but it makes sense given how open the water is.
Parking is £3.50 for the day on an ANPR system, with the first 15 minutes free if you're just nipping in, and £2 if you've come on a motorbike. One thing that stings a bit is that blue badge holders still pay to park, no exemption there, which feels like an oversight for a site that's otherwise properly set up for wheelchair access.
