What it’s like

A free local library with weekly story time and a Lego and board games club, plus study pods upstairs.

Story time runs weekly and is the obvious reason to build a morning around, especially if you've got a preschooler who needs books read aloud rather than just handed over. There's also a Lego and board games club, which is the sort of thing that quietly eats a whole afternoon once they're settled in.

The book selection covers audio books, large print and graphic novels, so it's not just picture books and reading schemes if you've got a child who wants something meatier, or an adult who wants their own book while the kids are at the club table. It's free to get in and use, which makes it an easy one to add to a wet weekend without weighing up the cost first.

Upstairs there are study spaces and two bookable study pods, useful if you've got an older one revising while the younger ones are downstairs at Lego club. Access is step free with automatic doors front and rear, and there's a lift to the first floor if the pushchair or a wheelchair needs to go up. Parking is at the rear, in off Park Road.

Hours are Monday to Friday 10am to 5pm and Saturday 10am to 2pm. There's no Sunday opening listed at all, so plan around that if you're a weekend-only family.
