What it’s like

A free library with regular baby, toddler and kids' sessions, from rhyme time to Lego Club and Dungeons and Dragons.

Free to walk into, and there's more going on than just borrowing books. Term time brings Toddler Time, and there are Baby Bounce & Rhyme sessions for the pre-walkers who just want to wobble about to a song. Once your kids are a bit older there's Lego Club every fortnight, a Dungeons & Dragons session every four weeks, and Games Day fortnightly too, so the calendar's worth checking if you want to time your visit around one of them rather than turning up cold.

Beyond the sessions, it's a proper working library: fiction and non-fiction, large print, DVDs, and Talking Books if anyone in the family prefers listening to reading. There's a Play & Put Away slot too, which is a nice low-key option if you just want somewhere warm and free to sit for half an hour with younger children.

Parking is free round the back of the Civic Centre, which takes the sting out of a quick visit. There's a lift to the first floor and the building's wheelchair accessible, baby change is on site, and there's wifi if you need to get some work done while the kids browse. Opening hours are a bit fragmented, split into morning and afternoon blocks and closed on Sundays, so it's worth having the times to hand rather than guessing.
