What it’s like

Kayaking, paddleboarding and open water swimming on a lake, with youth adventure days in the school holidays.

This is a lake, not a pool, so the water sports here have a bit more edge to them. Kayaking, stand up paddleboarding, open canoe sessions and rowing boats are all on offer, plus open water swimming if that's your thing. It's outdoor and open air the whole time, so check the forecast before you set off.

Most of the water activities have an over-8s rule, which is worth knowing before you promise a younger one a go in a kayak. Under-8s aren't left out entirely, since the site runs youth sessions and adventure days in the school holidays, but the main paddling and swimming activities are really built around kids who can already manage themselves in the water.

Being a natural lake rather than a chlorinated pool, it's also subject to water quality testing and can change with the weather and the seasons, so what's running on the day can shift. There's a café on site for warming up afterwards, lockers for your gear, and it's wheelchair accessible with an accessible toilet.

Opening hours are generous on weekdays, 6:30am to 10pm, which suits an early paddle before work as much as an after-school session. Weekends are shorter, 7am to 5pm, so plan around that if you're coming as a family on a Saturday.
