What it’s like
Workshops in painting, clay, lino printing and macrame for 5 to 14 year olds, from £15 a session.
This is a proper craft studio rather than a paint-your-own-mug spot. Kids get stuck into lino printing, cyanotype blue prints, botanical casting, macrame and even sewing machine classes, alongside the more familiar paint and clay sessions. Workshops start from £15, and if you just want something for the car journey home there are creative kits from £4 to take away.
It suits ages 5 to 14, and the site is upfront that a smaller group of the teachers specialise in younger makers, so the sessions are pitched at kids rather than just scaled down from adult classes. The studio only seats up to 12 children at a time, with room for a few parents to stay and watch, so this isn't a drop-in-and-wander kind of place. Open Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 4pm, closed Mondays.
Birthday parties run as two-hour slots, though the actual teaching is 60 to 90 minutes, leaving the rest for food, presents and photos. It's £22 to £25 per child, with a minimum spend of £154 for a group of seven, which is worth knowing before you start inviting half the class. A £50 deposit locks in the date and the balance is due on the day itself.
There's free parking on the surrounding residential streets, which is one less thing to think about if you're already juggling paints and a birthday cake.
