What it’s like

A free community hub with parent and toddler groups, a reading corner and free wifi, open weekdays only.

This is a library and community hub rather than a soft play or a museum, so the appeal is quieter: parent and toddler groups, a reading and relaxation area, and activities laid on for young people. If you've got a toddler and need somewhere to sit down that isn't your own front room, the toddler group is the obvious reason to turn up.

It's free to get in, which counts for a lot when you're filling an afternoon without spending anything. There's free wifi too, so it works if you need to get some emails done while your child is occupied with the reading area or a toddler session.

The catch is the opening hours. It's Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, and shut completely at weekends, so this isn't a Saturday plan. Over Christmas and New Year the hours shift again, closing early on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve and not reopening until early January.

Beyond the toddler groups and reading corner, the site also lists more grown-up hub services like online skills training, Into Work advice, and a document scan station, which tells you this is as much a community resource as a place to bring the kids.
