What it’s like
A small, free local museum in Brixham with a fishing and maritime history that's easy to fit around a harbour walk.
Free entry and no need to book, which makes this one of the simplest things to add to a day in Brixham. It's not a big building and it won't fill an afternoon on its own, but a maritime town like this has plenty of harbour history behind it, and this is where you go to actually look at it rather than just read a plaque.
Opening hours are on the tight side, which is worth building your day around rather than discovering on the doorstep. Tuesday to Thursday it's open 10am to 4pm, but on Saturdays that shrinks to 11am to 2pm, and it's closed Sundays and Mondays altogether. If you're planning a Brixham trip around the weekend, get there before lunch or you'll find the door shut.
Dogs are welcome inside, which is a small but genuinely useful detail if you're already walking one round the harbour and don't want to leave it tied up outside. Parking is the other practical snag: Brixham Central Car Park is the nearest option but it only allows stays up to three hours, so if you're combining the museum with lunch and a wander, Oxen Cove or Freshwater Quarry car parks are the better bet for a longer stay.
Since it costs nothing to walk in, there's no real downside to popping in for half an hour even if you're not sure it's your thing. Treat it as a add-on to a harbourside day out rather than the reason you drove to Brixham in the first place.
