What it’s like
A free park with a proper playground, wheelchair accessible swing and roundabout, and a ball games area for the older ones.
The playground here does a lot: toddler units for the little ones, a bigger multi-play unit for the seniors among them, a trampoline, a spinning pole and a run of swings to fight over. There's also a wheelchair accessible roundabout and swing, both usable with a radar key, which isn't something every park bothers with. If your crew are into basketball or general ball games, there's a hoop and a space for that too.
It's free to get in and open daily from 7:30am until dusk, so it fits round nap times or an after-school hour without any planning. Paths are good enough for a pushchair across most of the park, though a few areas have steps that'll catch you out if you're wheeling a buggy or a wheelchair without checking first.
Parking is the one thing to watch. It's free along Beaumont Road on the south side, but only for an hour, which is fine for a quick play and a run around but tight if you fancy settling in with a picnic. Walking or the bus might suit better if you want longer: it's about ten minutes on foot from the city centre along Ebrington Street, and there are bus stops on Beaumont Road and Tothill Avenue.
