What it’s like

A hands-on farm day of feeding sheep and goats, holding rabbits and guinea pigs, and a horse ride if you fancy it.

The main business here is animals you can actually touch. There's feeding and stroking across sheep, cows, goats, pigs, horses and chickens, plus small animal petting sessions where the rabbits, guinea pigs and even meerkats come out. Spring brings the baby animals, lambs, goat kids, piglets and chicks, which is the bit that'll get the "can we come back" question on the way home. There's a woodland walk too if the kids need a change of pace from being climbed on by goats, and horse rides for anyone keen to go one better than stroking.

It's open daily, 10am to 4pm, and there's no booking needed, you just buy tickets on arrival subject to availability. Worth knowing that admission, the small animal petting and the horse rides are all non-refundable and non-transferable and have to be used on the day you buy them, so if the weather turns or someone's tired out after an hour, that ticket's gone. No steps or thresholds in the public areas makes it easy going with a pushchair, and there's an accessible toilet and ramps for wheelchair users too.

The Oak Tree Cafe does homemade meals, daily specials, kids' meals and lunchboxes, with takeaway if you'd rather eat on the move. There's a gift shop and a plant sales centre for browsing once the animals have had enough of you, and parking for around 80 cars if you're driving, or the X3, 97A and 98A buses stop nearby if you're not.
