What it’s like
Highland cows to meet, a pumpkin festival every autumn, and a proper sit-down restaurant if you'd rather not do a picnic.
The Highland cows are the thing you'll book for. There are dedicated slots for meeting them, so you're not just hoping one wanders over, and it's worth building your visit around that time rather than turning up and seeing what's on.
Autumn is when this place properly comes alive, with the Pumpkin Festival bringing rides, carving tents, food stalls and live music into what's otherwise a fairly quiet farm calendar. Outside of that, they've got seasonal events dotted through the year and an Orchard Experience they say is coming soon. There's no age range given, but a farm with animals to meet and a festival with rides is going to suit toddlers up to primary age without much trouble.
Food is a proper restaurant rather than a café bolted on, doing home-cooked meals, and there's coffee and cake available Tuesday to Saturday between the main dining services if you just want to break up the visit. Weekends get busy enough that they recommend booking ahead for breakfast and lunch, and if you're trying your luck on the day you'll need to ring rather than book online. Afternoon Tea needs 48 hours notice, which is a faff if you decide on a whim, but fine if you're planning ahead.
Both pushchairs and wheelchairs are fine on site, though it's worth flagging that when you book so they know to expect you. Opening hours shift a bit through the week, running to about 3pm Tuesday to Friday and a bit later on Saturdays, so don't leave it too late in the day if you want a proper look round.
