Kenyon Hall Farm
WHERE
Warrington
What it’s like
A working farm near Warrington with a maize maze, fruit picking and a sunflower trail that change with the seasons.
This isn't a one-visit farm where you've seen it all by half past ten. What's on depends on the month: a maize maze in July and August, sunflowers to wander through in early August, an Easter egg hunt come spring, and Winter Welly Walks in January and February for the muddy months when most farms shut up shop. There's also fruit picking and a Junior Farmers Club running alongside, so a family who comes back across the year gets a genuinely different day each time.
Open every day from 9am to 5pm, which is a decent stretch and means you're not racing a 4pm closing with a toddler who's only just found the maze entertaining. The café runs until 4.30pm and does proper food rather than an afterthought, breakfasts, sandwiches, pies, soups and home-baked cakes, with vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options covered.
Getting there by car is the sensible plan. The site itself flags that buses aren't a good option, with the nearest stops over a mile away and a dangerous main road to walk along, so if you're relying on public transport it's worth booking a taxi from Birchwood, Newton-le-Willows or Warrington Bank Quay station instead, and they reckon £10-15 for the fare.
Dogs are welcome too, which is a nice touch if a farm day out means the whole household, four legs included.
