What it’s like

Meet the chicks in the courtyard, wander past the bee-hives and grazing animals, then try a wreath making workshop if the timing suits.

This is a working farm rather than a big day-out attraction, and the site reads that way. The main draw for kids is meeting the chicks in the courtyard, a session that runs at £10 for weekend slots and there's also an evening version at the same price for the adults. Outside that there's grazing animals to wander past, bee-hives to peer at from a safe distance, and general outdoor space to potter about in.

It's open Monday to Friday, 10am to 3pm, and they're upfront that it's a drop-in setup rather than a ticketed attraction with a booking system. There's also an Honesty Shed open during daylight hours if you fancy popping by outside the main hours, though the chick sessions and workshops themselves need booking ahead.

If you're after something a bit different than the usual petting farm visit, there's a wreath making workshop at £65, which is more of a grown-up or older-child activity than a toddler one going by the price and the craft involved. There's also a £5 Community As Medicine lunch, which sounds like a nice low-cost way to make a morning visit into a proper outing, though you can't just turn up on the day for that one. They want sign-ups by midnight on the Tuesday before, so it needs a bit of forward planning rather than a spontaneous decision on the school run.
