What it’s like

A rare breed farm where you can feed alpacas and pygmy goats, watch birds of prey and sit by the fishing lakes.

This one's built around slow looking rather than big rides or mazes. You wander round meeting rare breed animals, buy a pound's worth of feed for the alpacas and pygmy goats, and there's a birds of prey display to catch as well. If your family's idea of a good day out is a proper hands-on animal encounter without a queue for anything, this fits.

The fishing lakes are the bit that surprises you. Rather than being an afterthought, they're listed as one of the things to do, so there's a genuine sit-down spot built into the visit rather than just a bench by the car park. That makes it easier to break the day up if you've got a toddler who needs a pause between the goat pen and the gift shop.

Entry is £6 per car and covers up to five people, which works out cheap if you've got a full car but feels a bit odd if there's just two of you turning up. Animal feed is a pound extra, and it's the sort of thing you'll end up buying more than once because the goats know exactly what you're carrying.

It's open every day from 10am to 3pm, which is a shorter window than a lot of farms run, so this isn't really a place for a lazy late-morning start. There's a café and picnic area if you want to eat on site, and a gift shop for the inevitable end-of-visit request. Just don't turn up on a bank holiday, it's closed.
