Galleries & Exhibitions in Reading
Reading's gallery scene isn't about big national collections, it's smaller and more hands-on. Jelly, right in the centre, runs after-school activities, family workshops and even life drawing sessions, and you'll need to book ahead. Out in Caversham, MADEbyTamalia at Creativ.Spaces does craft birthday parties from £18.50, with a 90-minute themed art session and party tea if you want it. For something more traditional, there's a longer trip out to Guildford for Watts Gallery, where under 16s get in free and you can wander the gardens and art trails as well as the Victorian gallery itself. If you've got younger children, the drop-in workshops at Jelly or a craft party in Caversham will suit better than a day trip. Save Watts Gallery for when you fancy making a proper outing of it, gardens included. Free entry for under 16s there takes some of the sting out of the distance, and Jelly's accessible space means it works well whatever your family needs.
