Comedy in Reading

Comedy nights in Reading tend to turn up alongside other things: dinner, a late bar, even a youth drama session. The Mill at Sonning, a few minutes out from the centre, pairs a show with a restaurant inside its old mill building by the river, good for an evening where you don't want to think about food separately. Progress Theatre, close to the centre, runs youth theatre for 7 to 18 year olds, all games and backstage skills rather than stand-up itself. And Popworld in the centre is a late-night bar for the over-18s, open Friday and Saturday until 4am with VIP booths. For a grown-up night out, Popworld is the obvious pick if you want music and company past midnight, VIP booths make it easy to book for a birthday or hen do. The Mill at Sonning suits a calmer evening, dinner first, show after, and it has a hearing loop and wheelchair access for anyone who needs them. Progress Theatre is really for younger performers rather than comedy audiences, but it is worth having on the radar if your kids are into drama and might fancy the stage themselves one day.
