YMCA International Community Centre
WHERE
Nottingham
What it’s like
A hireable community space in Nottingham where local groups run sessions, homework clubs and activities, rather than a drop-in venue itself.
This one's a bit different from most places on here. The YMCA International Community Centre is a building you hire or book into, with rooms and a small hall used by local groups for all sorts, homework and after-school clubs included. What your child actually does on the day comes down to whoever's running that particular session, so it's worth finding out from the group itself what's planned before you turn up.
The centre is open long hours in the week, from 9am to 9pm Monday to Friday, and 9am to 4:30pm at weekends, which gives group organisers plenty of room to schedule sessions at different times of day. There's no in-house catering beyond tea and coffee at a small cost, though Fox Talbots café sits right next door if you want something more substantial before or after.
Wheelchair access is genuinely thought through here. Rooms 1 to 5, the small hall and the Garden Room are all built for wheelchair users, and the centre describes itself as a charity that welcomes groups from all backgrounds and capacities.
Parking is the one to plan around. There's only one chargeable space per daytime session, and it's given first to tutors and group leaders and to disabled permit holders, so if you're driving in for a session you're not running yourself, don't count on parking outside.

Plan your visit
What actually happens at a session here?
It depends entirely on the group or organisation running it. This is a room-hire and community centre, so a homework club or after-school session here is set up and led by whichever group has booked the space.
Is there parking?
One chargeable space per daytime session, and it goes first to tutors, group leaders and disabled permit holders. If you need parking yourself, it is worth checking with whoever runs the session you are attending.
Can we get food there?
The centre itself only does tea and coffee at a small cost. Fox Talbots café next door offers proper catering.
Is it wheelchair accessible?
Yes, Rooms 1 to 5, the small hall and the Garden Room are all set up for wheelchair users.
How do we book a session or room?
Payment in full is needed seven days before the event, and the booking is only confirmed once that payment is received. Bookings can also be amended if you give at least seven days written notice.
