What it’s like

School holiday camp days of climbing, archery, mountain biking and swimming for ages 4 to 15, by day or full week.

Days run 8am to 6pm and pack in a proper spread of activity: a climbing wall, archery, mountain biking, drama and racquet sports alongside indoor and outdoor games and some artistic projects. Everyone gets a trip to Portland Leisure Centre during the week too, with the whole pool booked out just for campers, so swimming kit needs to go in the bag every single day since the pool isn't on site.

The Skill Clinics are the bit worth knowing about before you book. They're only open to week-long bookings for ages 8 to 15, and children pick their own clinic after the first morning's rally on a first-come, first-served basis rather than choosing in advance, so if your child has their heart set on archery it pays to get there sharp on day one. Day campers and younger kids follow a different programme, which is fine but worth knowing if a sibling is desperate to copy their older brother or sister.

A day costs £62, a full week £241, which works out cheaper per day if you can commit to the whole week, plus it unlocks the Skill Clinics and a Thursday Adventure Day Trip during summer camp. Parking's free on site for drop-off and pickup, and there's a tram stop a five-minute walk away at Wilford Lane if you fancy leaving the car at home. Collection is between 5pm and 6pm, and you're given a direct phone number for the camp in case you need to check in during the day.
