What it’s like

Free drop-in youth club with after-school sessions for 5 to 11s and open access for teenagers, no booking needed.

This is a free, walk-in youth club rather than a booked activity, and that's the whole point of it. Younger kids aged 5 to 11 get an after-school club, while 13 to 19 year olds get open access sessions where they can just turn up. In between there's a sports drop-in with table tennis, football and basketball, plus school holiday playschemes for the 6 to 11 age group when term ends.

There's no membership and no fee, which makes it an easy one to try without committing to anything. You don't need to book a session either, though if you're not sure whether it's the right fit for your child, they'd rather you rang first and described them, their age, what they're into, what they need, and they'll tell you honestly if it's the right place and when to come along.

Reception hours are Monday to Friday 10am to 5pm and Saturday 9:30am to 1pm, so that's your window for after-school and Saturday sessions. Rooms themselves can apparently be booked seven days a week subject to availability, those reception hours are just when someone's there to meet you.

Getting there is straightforward if you're coming by tram, with the Hyson Green Market stop on the NET line a few minutes' walk away. Parking is on-street and free, but it does fill up in the evenings, so factor in a bit of a walk if you're driving over for an after-school slot.
