What it’s like

Brunch, cakes and locally roasted coffee next to a pirate-themed adventure playground.

This one's a proper sit-down café rather than a quick coffee stop: brunch, lunch, cakes, shakes, and coffee that's locally roasted. There's a kids menu on the go too, and bakery items and grazing boxes if you fancy ordering ahead. Indoor seating comes with vintage board games on the tables, handy if you're waiting on food or just want to stretch the meal out a bit.

The pirate park adventure playground sits right next to the terrace, so once plates are cleared the kids can get straight out there while you finish your coffee. It's open Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 4pm, and closed Mondays, so worth building that into any weekend plan.

They take bookings, and given it's a fairly small operation with set hours, it's the sensible move rather than turning up on spec. Parking is free, accessed off Mansfield Road next to White Lodge. Pushchairs and wheelchairs are both fine, and if you're bringing the dog there's a proper dog-friendly seating area with water bowls and treats laid on.
