What it’s like
Free gallery visits and a Saturday art club with hands-on making, right opposite the Forest tram stop.
Wander round changing exhibitions with no ticket to buy, or turn up on a Saturday for the free art club where the activities are hands-on rather than look-but-don't-touch. There are artist-led walks too if you want someone talking you through what's on the walls rather than working it out yourselves.
It's open Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm, and shut on Sundays, Mondays and bank holidays, so this is one for a weekday or Saturday plan rather than a weekend fallback. Entry's free, which makes it an easy one to fit around something else in the city without worrying about timings or ticket costs.
The Corner Café does plant-based food and drinks, useful if you want to make a proper stop of it rather than a quick look round. Getting there is straightforward if you're coming from the centre: the tram stops right opposite at Forest, about ten minutes from the train station, and trams run every 7 to 8 minutes. On-street parking nearby is free at weekends but limited to two hours on weekdays, so if you're driving on a Tuesday you'll want to keep an eye on the clock.
Group visits need booking two weeks ahead, and tours run to 30 minutes, which is worth knowing if you're thinking of bringing a school or college group along.
