What it’s like

See rescued owls and birds of prey up close, then take a walk in Randalstown Forest next door.

This isn't a zoo in the usual sense. Every bird here has been rescued, and the site is upfront that some are restricted to their enclosures rather than free to fly about, so temper expectations if your kids are picturing a falconry display. What you do get is a proper close look at owls and birds of prey, plus reptiles and mini beasts for the ones who prefer things with scales.

If you fancy going further, individual Owl Experiences can be pre-booked for £35 on top of entry, which is a decent chunk of money but probably the bit an owl-mad seven-year-old remembers longest. There's an outdoor play area for when attention spans run out, and Randalstown Forest is right there for a walk afterwards, so you can turn it into a longer morning out rather than a quick hour.

Entry is £9 a child and £12 an adult, or £40 for a family of four, with extra kids at £5 each. It's open Tuesday to Sunday, 11am to 5pm, with last admission at 4pm, so don't roll up at half four expecting a full look round. No booking needed for a normal visit, just for the Owl Experience and for group visits.

Worth knowing before you go in: some of the staff have conditions that affect how they communicate, and the site asks visitors to be courteous about it. Dogs aren't allowed, and they'll close in genuinely dangerous weather.

Plan your visit

How much does it cost?

£9 for a child aged 3 to 15, £12 for an adult, or £40 for a family ticket covering two adults and two children. Extra children on a family ticket are £5 each.

Do we need to book?

Walk-ups are fine for a normal visit. Group visits need to be booked ahead, and so does the Owl Experience.

What age is it suitable for?

The site lists ages 3 to 15 for child pricing, so it suits primary age kids well, with younger ones happy enough looking at the birds and the play area.

What's the Owl Experience?

An individual, pre-booked add-on for £35 on top of normal entry.

What time should we arrive?

It's open 11am to 5pm Tuesday to Sunday, but last admission is 4pm, so don't leave it too late in the day.

Can we bring the dog?

No, dogs and other pets aren't allowed on site.

Is it accessible with a buggy or wheelchair?

The site is listed as wheelchair accessible.

What if the weather's bad?

They close during dangerous weather conditions, so a stormy day might scupper your plans.
