What it’s like

Ten pin bowling and retro mini golf under one roof, with a stone-baked pizza menu to fuel the last few frames.

Bowling's the main event here, with lanes you can book by the game or take over by the hour if you've got a big group or a competitive streak. Monday to Thursday it's £7 a game for an adult and £5 for a child, which feels fair for an afternoon out. Fancy a whole lane to yourselves instead? That's £27.50 an hour midweek, £32.50 on a Friday and £37.50 at the weekend, which is a fair whack more if you're just after a quick game with the kids rather than a full lane booking.

There's also Retro Portal Mini Golf on site if bowling alone won't fill the visit, useful if you've got a mix of ages or someone who fancies a change of activity halfway through. No age restrictions apply for bowling, so it works whether you've got a five-year-old or a teenager who thinks they're a pro.

Food is stone-baked pizzas and milkshakes, plus a fully licensed bar for the grown-ups, and it's the only food and drink you're allowed to bring in or eat on site, so a picnic in the boot won't cut it here. Parking's free on site, and if you're coming by train Slateford Station is a two minute walk away on the Glasgow Central line.

Kids' parties are £15 a child, minimum ten children and ages six and up, with slots Friday 2:30 to 4pm or 4:30 to 6pm, and Saturday and Sunday mornings 10 to 11:30am. Parties come with themed bowling balls, tattoo transfers, candy floss and a photo booth, which should keep a room full of six-year-olds entertained between games. Worth knowing the deposit is 25% and non-refundable, and cakes have to be shop-bought or from a proper bakery with an ingredients list, not homemade.
