What it’s like

A basement games hall on Rose Street with bowling, duck pin, pool, shuffleboard and karaoke rooms under one roof.

Eight lanes of ten pin bowling are the obvious pull, but the duck pin lanes are worth saving for the ones too small to heave a full-size ball down the alley. Beyond that there's American pool, shuffleboard, bank shot shuffleboard, ice-free curling and crazy pool, plus two karaoke rooms if the kids would rather sing than aim. With that much on offer, a Mix and Match ticket for two or three activities at £18 or £24 a head is the sensible way to stop one bored kid dragging you off the lane after twenty minutes.

Under 18s are welcome with a supervising adult, but only until 7pm, or 5pm on Saturdays, so this is a daytime or early-evening trip rather than a late one. Peak and off-peak pricing runs across everything, with under-18s at peak times paying a flat £6 for bowling, duck pin, karaoke, crazy pool or curling, which is decent value once you've got two or three kids in tow. It's card only at the bars, so leave the coins at home.

There's a dress code worth knowing before you turn up: no sportswear, no tracksuit bottoms, and fancy dress has to be tasteful if you're coming straight from a party. Bowling shoes are provided if you need them, but flip-flops, heels and open-toed shoes are out, so pack proper trainers for the kids. Food runs to American-style pizzas, burgers, wings and sides, and the venue is downstairs, which is something to think about if you've got a buggy or anyone who struggles with steps.

A couple of hours covers bowling and a game of pool comfortably, longer if you've booked a party room or gone for the Mix and Match combo. Gaming tables are best booked online rather than chanced as a walk-in, especially at weekends when Saturday opening starts at 11am and things fill up fast.
