Rabbie's Tours Edinburgh Departure Point
WHERE
Edinburgh
What it’s like
Coach tours out of Edinburgh to the wider Scottish countryside, booked online and paid in full up front.
This isn't an attraction you wander round with the kids for an afternoon, it's the pickup point for day tours out of Edinburgh by coach. You book online, pay in full at the time of booking, and the coach leaves from either the bus station on N St Andrew St or from Elder Street, depending on the tour. Groups are capped at 12, so it's a small coach rather than a big tourist bus, which is nice if you don't fancy travelling with fifty strangers.
There's no faffing about with deposits, it's full payment there and then, and cancellation on one day tours is free up to 24 hours before you go. Anything closer than that, or a longer tour, and fees kick in. Kids need to be at least 5 to travel, and booster seats are available on request for anyone under 1.35m, so this is really one for school-age children rather than toddlers or babies.
Worth knowing before you book with younger kids: there are no onboard toilets on the mini-coaches, entry is up a set of steps at the front door (about 26cm off the ground), and once a tour is out at its stops, a lot of the walking is on foot over hills, stairs or cobbles, up to a mile in places. None of that is dealbreaker stuff for a fit family with older children, but it's not geared up for buggies or anyone who needs level, wheelchair-friendly access, since the coaches themselves aren't wheelchair accessible either.
Departures are prompt and they won't wait for latecomers, so turn up in good time. If your group is booking across separate transactions, it's worth flagging that to Rabbie's in advance so everyone ends up on the same coach.

What if we need to cancel?

Is it accessible for buggies or wheelchairs?
Coaches aren't wheelchair accessible and boarding is up steps at the front door, around 26cm high. Foldable lightweight mobility aids may be accommodated by prior arrangement, with one free companion seat available.
