What it’s like
A day nursery and after-school club in Manchester running football, music and cooking sessions for children from 6 months to 11 years.
This is a full day nursery rather than a drop-in activity spot, so the day is structured around EYFS-based play and learning rather than a single big attraction. Football classes run through Manchester City's CityPlay scheme for the 2 to 5s, and there's music with Tom the Music Man, movement sessions, art and craft, and baking thrown into the week. Older children in the after-school club get the same site from 3pm to 6pm once school finishes.
The football sessions are the obvious highlight if you've got a small child who's already obsessed with a ball, and it's a nice touch that it's run through an actual football club rather than a generic sports coach. Field trips to educational places of interest are mentioned too, which is a good sign that the days aren't spent entirely indoors.
Hours are Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 6pm, with the after-school club filling that 3 to 6pm slot for school-age children. Funded childcare is available for 9 months to 4-year-olds, which is worth knowing if you're trying to make the sums work. Meals are cooked on site to a four-week menu and they say they handle allergies and dietary restrictions, so you're not sending in a packed lunch every day.
There's on-site parking and pram storage, though it's at your own risk if you're wheeling a buggy in each morning. High steel fencing round the outdoor play area and CCTV are mentioned too, which matters more here than at a soft play, since this is somewhere you're leaving your child for the day.
